Investments in Cybersecurity Top $17 Billion in 2022
A 65% gain on the record 2020 investment levels. Down $5 billion from 2021.
Despite the dire predictions that the bottom was going to fall out of the cybersecurity industry in 2022, it was a banner year for investments.
A quick filtering of 3,228 vendors in the IT-Harvest platform for researching the cybersecurity industry finds the 405 vendors that took in funding through December 1, 2022. Compare that to the 474 in 2021 we recorded in Security Yearbook 2022. Not that dramatic a reduction.
Here are the top investment rounds. Some of these vendors are not strictly cybersecurity companies. Splunk sticks out in this regards. It raises money by private placements of big blocks of stock. OpenText is also public but it is more of a private equity roll-up of many vendors.
Leaving out Splunk and OpenText, the total raised by cybersecurity vendors in 2022 was $17.189 billion. In addition there were a few investment rounds where amounts were not announced.
Here are the vendors that took in funding to round out the year.
Let’s apply one more filter in the Explore tool. Of the vendors that took in new funding in 2022, how many grew more than 25%?
Not too shabby, right? The cybersecurity industry is healthy and growing, despite the gloomy forecasts and layoffs at some of the bigger vendors.
