The mad investors at YCombinator are hot on a new trend they call vertical agents. They talked them up in this video a few weeks ago. Thanks to redditer /r/nitkjh we have a nice summary of YC’s stance drawn from the video.
Launched March 30, 2022, the IT-Harvest Dashboard caught the tail-end of the SaaS era. It is the logical way to monetize a rich data set that combines data from many sources into a searchable, filterable, database. We had fourteen paying subscribers by November 30 that year and were cash flow positive when ChatGPT was launched. Over 100 million people signed up to use ChatGPT in two months, the fastest growing consumer app in history.
Our first foray into leveraging AI was using API access to GPT 3.5. We passed all the data we had on each of 3,200 vendors and prompted it to write a short summary of what the vendor does. It took GPT 3.5 a total of 150 hours (6+ days) to do the work and it cost $450. I wrote Catching the ChatGPT Wave on January 21, 2023, only three weeks after these new capabilities were available.
Two years later, this January 15, we launched HarvestIQ.ai which has some agentic elements to it.
